Spotlight on Southend's up and coming

Earlier this year I was fortunate enough to be asked to be part of the team facilitating a week long songwriting LAB, for some of Southend's Young Musician's. The LAB took place at the big house in Chalkwell Park in April - you can read about the week in previous post 'Stop, Collaborate and Listen'.

The project has opened up so many doors for this talented lot; since the LAB, they've hosted and played their first gig (the first ever for some of them); launched an open mic night for Southend's young musicians, been asked to play this years Village Green Festival and been hard at work on the release of their debut album - a compilation of original songs from each of them, produced, mixed and mastered at Seacroft Studios by Paul Finch, Davey Hal and Brian Roost.

What's amazing about this isn't just the talent, but actually how much the project has inspired these youngsters to really push themselves to the next level - something that meant quite different things to each of them: we, of course had accomplished performers and writers, all of whom have continued down this path with sheer determination and grit: but we also had those who were yet to play a gig, sing in public or share their music with the world. Every single one of them on the project has raised their own personal bar since the project, and to such a quality, there is now an albums worth of material.

If you want to hear them for yourself, the album is being released on 2nd July:
